Title of speech: What is the future for highway engineering?

Prof. Woodside has spent more than 55 years in highway engineering as an Academic, Researcher, and a Consultant. He has performed research throughout the world, supervised 58 PhDs, contributed to more than 200 publications, presented papers throughout the world, and has been engaged in more than 500 projects as consultant. He is currently The Visiting Professor in Civil Engineering at Brunel University London. In 2012 he was awarded an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) by HRH The Queen (UK) for his services to Higher Education and Highway Engineering. He has been involved with this conference ever since its inception (1992).

Dr. Cliff Nicholls
Title of speech: Asphalt mixture specification and testing

Cliff Nicholls worked at TRL between 1998 and 2015 undertaking research into pavement materials, particularly surface course asphalt but also surface treatments and concrete. He specialized in testing, being conveyor of the CEN task group for asphalt tests for 15 years. Cliff now takes on occasional projects, including consultation work for TRL.

Dr. Peter Sebaaly
Title of speech: Designing high performance asphalt pavements

Dr. Peter E. Sebaaly is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the Western Regional Superpave Center (WRSC) and the Pavement Engineering & Science (PES) Program at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Dr. Sebaaly is currently working on several research projects on the development of new engineered materials to enhance the durability and sustainability of asphalt pavements and the incorporation of these materials into design methods and specifications for maintenance, rehabilitation, and construction of pavements.

Dr. Hosin 'David' Lee
Title of speech: Asphalt pavement recycling: High RAP mix and warm in-place recycling

Dr. Hosin 'David' Lee is a Professor and Director of Laboratory for Advanced Construction Technology (LACT), Center for Computer-Aided Design, Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa and a Guest Professor at Xiamen University of Technology and Southwest Jioatong University. He is President of International Society for Maintenance and Rehabilitation of Transport Infrastructures (iSMARTi), Associate Editor of iSMARTi's affiliated journal ``Infrastructures`` by the MDPI, serves on the Board of Trustees for Seoul Institute of Technology and Editorial Board of ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems, Chairman of the First International Conference on Smart Cities, Seoul, July 17-19, 2019 and Program Chair of US-Korea Conference, Chicago, August 14-17, 2019.

Dr. Robert Hunter
Title of speech: Effectiveness of tack coats and bond coats in asphalt pavements

Dr. Hunter is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Fellow of the Institute of Asphalt Technology, Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. He has published many papers in technical journals and has given numerous talks to various Institutions. Dr. Hunter has had involvement as editor or author in the following books or manuals: Bituminous Mixtures in Road Construction (1994), Claims on Highway Contracts (1997), Asphalts in Road Construction (2000), The Shell Bitumen Handbook (2004), ICE Manual of Construction Materials (2009), ICE Manual of Highway Design & Management (2011) and Shell Bitumen Handbook, 6th edition (2015). Dr. Hunter has also written two programs which analyse temperature changes in unchipped asphalts and chipped HRA during and after laying.

Epidavros : FAA Workshop

On Thursday, 13 June 2019 from 14:30 to 17:45, a Workshop will be presented by FAA's R&D Team. No participation fee is required. All registered participants to the 7th ICONBMP are welcome to attend it.
The topic of this workshop is ``Airport pavement design-FAARFIELD 1.4`` and the aim is to familiarize the attendees with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) recently developed software in airfield pavements.
In particular, FAARFIELD 1.41 (FAA Rigid and Flexible Iterative Elastic Layered Design) was introduced in November 2016. FAARFIELD continues the “look and feel” of the FAA’s software FAARFIELD 1.3, but also includes significant changes. The FAARFIELD design procedure is the FAA’s standard for airport pavement design and is included in the FAA’s new Advisory Circular 150/5320-6F, “Airport Pavement Design and Evaluation”.
This FAA software workshop is intended for airport operators, consultants, and others with a practical interest in airport pavement design. Participants in the workshop will:
1. Learn the principles of pavement design & pavement analysis using FAA software including FAARFIELD 1.4.
2. Experience hands-on demonstrations of the FAARFIELD software, with examples.
3. Understand the major difference between FAARFIELD and previous FAA design procedures.
It is highly recommended that workshop participants bring their own laptops so they can install FAARFIELD to follow along through the training and pavement design examples.
